Dental Health

As with people, pets need to have good oral hygiene to maintain healthy teeth and gums throughout their life.
The first sign of dental disease you may notice is bad breath. However this is usually only the tip of the problem.

Research shows that by 2 years of age 80% of dogs will have some dental disease. Usually this starts as plaque build up, and leads on to periodontal disease and gingivitis. These conditions are potentially painful and damaging to the teeth and gums. Through spread of bacteria they can also lead on to disease of the heart, liver and kidneys.

The best dental care is preventative dental care. This means stopping the formation of plaque.
There are several methods of keeping the teeth clean. For example tooth brushing (daily!), chewing raw hide chews or hard dental biscuits, TD diet, and flushing with an antibacterial mouthwash.

We offer high level dental treatment and advanced orthodontics. This includes treatment for fractured teeth, endodontics, root canal treatment, malocclusions (developmental and breed type alignment of teeth) and advanced periodontal procedures. Dental radiography is essential for correct diagnosis and part of complete and thorough examination. We advise 6 monthly dental examinations. Please call for more information.
